Copan D Apartment: Merging Units for an Expansive Living Space in São Paulo

In 2022, architects from Sabiá Arquitetos and Trema Arquitetura embarked on a significant renovation project within one of São Paulo’s most iconic architectural landmarks: the Copan building. Their endeavor focused on transforming a sprawling apartment in Block D, which was originally composed of two separate three-bedroom units. The primary objective was to forge a singular, capacious living environment, meticulously integrating the formerly distinct spaces into a harmonious whole.

A Seamless Transformation: Unveiling the New Copan D Apartment

The core of this transformation involved the complete removal of the wall separating the two living rooms, a pivotal step in unifying the mirrored floor plans. Additionally, partitions of two bedrooms adjacent to these living areas were partially dismantled. This strategic intervention culminated in the creation of an impressive 24-meter-long social space. This expansive area now boasts an unobstructed, curved facade that stretches gracefully along the building's distinctive brise-soleil, offering residents an unparalleled panoramic vista of the vibrant city of São Paulo. From this elevated vantage point, one can admire the sweeping urban landscape, with the majestic Serra da Cantareira gracing the distant horizon. Further enhancing the visual grandeur, a mirror strategically positioned on the central circulation area’s wall, directly opposite the facade, artfully reflects the vast urban expanse. This clever design element invites the eye to discover new vanishing points, enriching the perception of depth and connection to the metropolitan surroundings within the comfort of the home.
