Studio Libeskind Unveils Vision for Seoul's Daechi Ssangyong Towers

Studio Libeskind, in collaboration with Samoo and HJ Design Partners, has unveiled plans for the Daechi Ssangyong redevelopment, a new residential complex in Seoul's prestigious Gangnam district. This ambitious project seeks to establish a harmonious connection between urban living and nature, replacing five existing buildings with six towering skyscrapers designed to integrate nearly a thousand homes.

The Daechi Ssangyong complex, which will rise to 49 stories, aims to redefine luxury residential living with its distinctive architectural style. Daniel Libeskind, founder of Studio Libeskind, articulated the vision to create an environment where residents feel deeply connected to both the sky and the landscape. The towers will feature light-toned vertical facade elements that create dynamic, curving patterns, offering ever-changing visual experiences as light and movement interact with the buildings. This design philosophy extends to the ground level, where a sinuous lounge space with expansive glazed walls will frame a public square and a circular water feature, fostering community interaction and engagement.

Construction of the Daechi Ssangyong project is scheduled to commence in early 2027, with an anticipated completion date in 2030. Samsung Engineering and Construction Group is undertaking the development, which also incorporates curving gardens that intertwine among the residential towers and extend over the lounge space's roof, providing scenic views of the nearby Yangjae Stream.
